In Portsmouth Public Schools (PPS), the social-emotional needs of the division’s students and staff are crucial priorities in running today’s schools and classrooms. That is why the PPS team is always Here to Help. Learn more about how the ongoing work of the division’s school counseling teams and more resources available year-round for students, staff and families.

Need someone to talk to?

For students who are feeling overwhelmed, school counselors are always available – even if you are going to school in a virtual setting. Students or family members can just call their school administration to schedule a time to speak directly with their school counselor. If needed, school psychologists can also meet with students.

For staff members, the division continues to offer its Employee Assistance Program free of charge to employees. Staff can confidentially reach trained professionals who can provide counseling support as well as key techniques to help handle stresses in the workplace.

Throughout the school year, the Office of School Psychology utilizes a number of outside organizations to provide resources for students and families, including the Portsmouth Health Department, the Community Services Board, the National Association of School Psychologists, the National Child Traumatic Stress Network, the Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

Psychological First Aid - The NCTSN has resources for responders on Psychological First Aid (PFA). PFA is an early intervention to support children, adolescents, adults, and families impacted by these types of events. Download PFA Mobile on your IOS or Android mobile devices.
